Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
Managing allegations against individuals working or volunteering with children in North Lincolnshire
The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) has responsibility for independent management and oversight of allegations against people who work or volunteer with children. All agencies providing services for children should have procedures in place for reporting and managing allegations against staff and volunteers.
The criteria for LADO involvement apply when an individual working or volunteering with children has:
- Behaved in a way that has harmed a child, or may have harmed a child
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child
- Behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates they may pose a risk of harm to children
- Behaved or may have behaved in a way that indicates they may not be suitable to work with children.
If the allegation meets any of the above criteria, the employer or agency must report it to the LADO within one working day.
