This workshop provides an in-depth exploration of key processes, legal frameworks and critical issues related to domestic abuse. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of:
Objectives:
- To be confident in recognising coercive control, understand its definition, signs and stages of coercive control, and how these ties in with the Homicide Timeline, how the characteristics manifests in relationships, exploring the strategies used to isolate, manipulate and dominate victims. Identifying patterns of behaviour and escalation. Emphasising the importance of accurate recording.
- To identify patterns of stalking & harassment, prevention strategies and legal responses.
- To have an awareness of Honour-Based Violence and Female Genital Mutilation (more in-depth training available via CMARS)
- To understand Claire’s Law – The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS), enabling individuals to request information about a partner’s history of abuse.
- To have a clear understanding of Domestic Violence Protection Orders – legal measures designed to protect victims and prevent further harm.
- To recognise the signs, risks and legal implications of non-fatal strangulation.
