It focuses on recognising additional risks\, improving communication\, and ensuring that children’s voices are heard.\nThe training will support staff to respond confidently to safeguarding concerns\, understand local processes\, and work effectively with other professionals. It also highlights the importance of adapting practice to meet individual needs and providing the right support at the right time.\nBy the end of this training\, practitioners will be able to:\n\n\nUnderstand the additional safeguarding risks faced by disabled children and young people\n\n\nRecognise signs of harm or abuse and take appropriate action\n\n\nKnow when and how to make a referral\, including understanding local pathways and thresholds\n\n\nUse a range of communication methods to ensure the child’s voice is heard\, including non-verbal approaches where needed\n\n\nAdapt their practice to support children with sensory impairments\, including visual and hearing needs\n\n\nUnderstand safeguarding risks within the home\, including how adaptations and support (such as Disabled Facilities Grants) can improve safety\n\n\nRecognise the impact of carer stress and fatigue\, and understand how short breaks and support services can reduce risk\n\n\nUnderstand basic principles of mental capacity when working with disabled children and young people\n\n\nWork effectively with other professionals\, recognising the importance of strong multi-agency working to keep children safe
